Privacy Policy

A short, plain-language summary of how Farang Travel handles the information of people who read the site. Nothing fancy, nothing buried. If anything here is unclear, write in and ask.

Who We Are

Farang Travel is an independent publication written from Bangkok. When this policy says "we", "us" or "our", it means the editor of Farang Travel. Postal address and a contact email will be added here once they exist.

What This Policy Covers

This policy covers the information collected through the website at farang.travel and any subdomain we operate, including staging.farang.travel. It does not cover third-party sites we link to. If you follow a link out, that site has its own policy.

What We Collect And Why

We try to collect as little as possible. As of the date at the top of this page:

  • We do not run our own analytics. If we add analytics in the future, we will use a tool that does not set tracking cookies or build profiles of readers. We will update this page before we turn anything on.
  • We do not run a comment system. We do not run a contact form. We do not collect names, email addresses or any other personal information from readers.
  • Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, sees the standard request information every web server sees: your IP address, the page you requested, the time of the request and your browser's user-agent string. Cloudflare uses this to serve the site, defend it from attacks and produce aggregated traffic reports. Cloudflare may set a strictly-necessary bot-management cookie called __cf_bm. This cookie does not identify you. It expires after thirty minutes of inactivity. More about how Cloudflare handles this data is in their own privacy notice.

Pages on the site load typefaces from Google Fonts. Google sees the same request information your hosting provider sees when this happens. We do not pass any other information to Google.

Cookies

We do not set our own cookies. The only cookie set on the site at the moment is Cloudflare's strictly-necessary __cf_bm. Under the Thai PDPA, strictly-necessary cookies do not require prior consent.

Sanity Studio

This site uses Sanity, a hosted content management system, for the editor (that is, the person writing the site). The Studio lives at /studio/ and is for authenticated editors only. Readers never use it. If you have somehow ended up there, no data is being collected from you that is different from any other page.

How Long We Keep Things

Cloudflare's server logs are retained according to Cloudflare's own retention policy. We do not keep our own copies of those logs. If we add analytics in the future, the retention period for any data they collect will be added here.

Your Rights

Under the Thai PDPA, you have rights over personal data we hold about you. As of the date at the top of this page, the honest answer is that we hold very little. The rights you have include:

  • The right to be informed about how we handle your data. That is what this page is for.
  • The right to access any data we hold about you.
  • The right to correct inaccurate data.
  • The right to ask us to delete data we hold about you, where the law allows.
  • The right to object to certain kinds of processing.
  • The right to lodge a complaint with the Personal Data Protection Committee of Thailand.

To exercise any of these rights, write to us at the contact email shown at the top of this page (once it exists). We will respond within thirty days.

Children

We do not knowingly collect any data from children under thirteen. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please write in and we will remove it.

Changes To This Policy

When we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of the page and, where the change is meaningful, we will note what changed and when. We will not quietly broaden what we do behind the scenes.
